I was recently scammed

You read the title right. I was recently scammed and it was the first time. I didn’t see it coming; However I am sure I could have avoided it had I taken time and done my research. But then again who knows if something is a scam or not at first.

Let me start with the beginning….

For Christmas my hubby wanted to get me a 70-300 mm camera lenses for my camera as he had personally always wanted one and thought it would help my blog photos out. We were on the hunt for one with the budget we had and looked and LOOKED! Finally one evening after several Amazon.com views we found one for $74 that we thought sounded too good to be true and purchased. We received an e-mail that the lenses would arrive between January 24-Feb. 16.

February 20th came around and no lenses. I asked my hubby to call Amazon and complain about the seller and he did.  Three phone calls later with Amazon and two e-mails sent on my end to seller still no lense and no money refund. Amazon was suppose to blacklist the seller and discontinue them as a seller but still what a pain to not receive any refund yet or confirmation on how to be compensated, what does Amazon expect, that we call everyday? We have not heard from the seller via e-mail after three e-mails.

Little did I know from reviews I later noticed that the seller was given bad reviews and it was then that I realized I had been scammed! Scammed just like everyone else from that seller.

I have always trusted my shopping experience on Amazon, from books to cameras to Christmas presents but this whole experience taught me to be on the lookout for two things before buying.

1). Check the reviews on a seller before purchasing

2). Sometimes if a price on a brand new item is too good to be true it probably isn’t worth the money in the long run

What are your Amazon shopping tips? Have you been scammed online?

My hubby did eventually find me a lense and while it was not a 70-300 mm it was a 50 mm for Canon Rebel which is what I had secretly been eyeballing. We found it at our local camera supplies store and we LOVE it! In fact, it is the lense we used for today and yesterdays post.

I love the crisp, clear freshness of this lense as it captures portraits perfectly.

In conclusion, we were scammed, did not receive money back nor replacement lense, but we found a lense we both love locally and for now that will do.

Now to fill you in on your survey answers.

I am amazed by how generous you all have been as my survey received mostly all positive responses. I did have one person comment suggesting more makeup for posts and I assume that means more makeup on me or covering more makeup topics. This is an area I am glad you notice and want to see more of. I will need to do a post explaining my makeup or lack thereof soon as there are reasons I don’t wear a lot or any but I am trying to up my game in this area as I am shopping around for some that will agree with me.

Half of the people that took the survey liked receiving e-mails as my “Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me” link up went live and half of you link up to it. I had three people leave a response that they liked a reminder of the e-mail the day before the link up and one person tell me they didn’t like an e-mail at all. Thank you for linking up to those that do.

A good half of those that took the survey stated they wanted in place a “Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me” pinterest board which you can now find here with some of yesterdays featured pins already pinned. Here each week I will pin the featured 5 and my post and co-hosts link. I wish I could pin all your links, but sadly that may not happen all the time. Feel free to add yours though as you link them up.

Many of you liked seeing the following content and these got the most popular responses: Blogging tips, General outfits and Hubby and Wife Style posts. I loved that many of you found the afore mentioned post topics as “intriguing” and or helpful, especially the blogging tips. I actually REALLY enjoy blogging tip posts myself over all of my post contents but it takes LOADS of research and perfecting my knowledge. With these kinds of posts I want to make them my own with the goal of helping you but without sounding like the next blogger who has done a similar post if you know what I mean. In the next two weeks I will do another blogging tip post on reaching out to brands so be on the look out as I will include a freebie (per your request, i.e. free social media kit template) and other information I personally use or discontinued doing.

Overall, you all loved my blog. I received positive statements about my new blog design, consistent posting schedule, and didn’t have any awful suggestions so thank you for being so open and honest with me. I look forward to helping you out and or sharing with you more content that you love.

That is so crazy what happened to you! I can’t believe that happened through Amazon – I almost thought Amazon would be free from that kinda junk. Hopefully you get your money back but if not at least it was less than $100 and the pictures with your new lens turned out great! Looking oh, so lovely in that scarf girlie 😉

Wow, I cannot believe that happened to you through Amazon. I have always felt safe buying from them, but now I will be a bit more cautious. I hope you get some kind of resolution. I am glad you were able to purchase a “nifty fifty” – I Love mine. Thanks for sharing the results of your survey; it sounds like it was really beneficial for you. Very cute look and I really like how your scarf pops against the blue.

I’m shocked you haven’t received a refund from Amazon yet. Maybe you still will. I have never had a problem with Amazon. There were a couple of times I didn’t receive my product, but after just one email, it was immediately refunded. But they were very tiny dollar amounts. Maybe with more expensive amounts they do a bit more research before issuing a refund.

Ugh, what an experience! So sorry that happened to you! I am glad you eventually got your lenses.

That stinks that you got scammed! I agree, reading the reviews is huge!

    Cute top!

Hi Rachel, I’m Carmen from Italy. My husband bought a cheap watch from China through Amazon. He received it after 1 month, damaged. He complained and the seller offered to send another one to us. The second one never shows up, so we asked for the refund and we get it!
How can I pin on “Bloggers who inspired me” ? Do I need you to authorize me to?

    Hear you soon, Carmen !

I have not had this happen to me yet on Amazon, but I did have my credit card # get stolen after a few Amazon purchases last year and I wonder if it was related. Ugh! I do always read the reviews on Amazon, but sometimes we get busy and its easy to forget to!! What a pain, I am glad it worked out. Aren’t new camera lenses the best?

It’s devastating when that happens! It shows you that you have to be extra cautious when buying – sometimes even from trusted places you could be duped.

I’m really surprised Amazon didn’t take better care of you. I will say that I am really cautious on buying outside of amazon shipped products. I have had items received damaged, or not the item pictured and broken when I order from others. They have always fixed it but it’s a super big pain. I hope you get your money back soon. Your scarf is super cute though. Love the look. xo ~ Megan

So sorry to hear about the scam. I hope Amazon will fix it. I am glad you found a lens you like.

First of all, love the tunic, the peek of lace and those fabulous peep toe booties! Second of all, are you not absolutely in love with your 50mm lens? I got mine for Christmas and it has got to be the best thing ever! So sorry about the shyster on Amazon. Sometimes people can be the worst. My husband and I got taken for about $75 a few months back, but believe it or not, it was the old fashioned way…by an actual in person human. My husband had made a purchase at a small local business and the guy took the card to run it in the office. Lo and behold, on my next bank statement there was a Playstation download on our card and we don’t own a Playstation! It was the day after my husband had made that purchase and the only time our card was out of our sight. The bank was great about refunding our money, but I had to fill out a ton of paperwork to get it taken care of, plus shutting down the cards, waiting for new ones…what a pain. Hopefully Amazon resolves it for you.
    Have a great weekend!

I have been scammed on Amazon before too. I bought an Alex + Ani ring, but what came to my house was clearly a knock-off. I’ve also heard that you have to be careful about buying lotions and essential oils on Amazon because some sellers might try to put cheaper stuff in the bottles.

  • Johanna March 13, 2016 at 11:55 pm

Sorry to hear that! I’ve been scammed too but eventually the negative reviews catch up with them. Chin up girl!

I’m sorry to hear about that and that’s horrible! Things like that happen unfortunately and it’s happened to me where the seller said to return the item and they wil refund, but they never did. I ended for 3 months back and for the between ebay and Paypal until they finally paid me back my money but it was the seller that did! What’s worse is that the seller had mostly good ratings which made me trust them but I later learned that often sellers (depending on the site) will change the reviews for their benefit so they don’t look bad.

  • Carrie March 14, 2016 at 8:31 pm

What a bummer, Rachel! I’m sorry to hear that has been your experience.
